I'd go with Paul's (1), Tim. The first sentence of another section of the website https://web.archive.org/web/20160506...raf/brats.html rules out your father on age grounds:

The 33rd Entry shuffled into Air Force history in January 1936, when a motley collection of schoolboys, aged between 15 and 17, arrived at RAF Station Halton,

All The more I look at this list, the more I am convinced it came from names on a photo

    using
    https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk...n-1918-to-1975

With 'known' names throws up the fact that they are all being listed as joined RAF in "1926" - I would suggest this is wrong and should be 1936 (assuming Service number allocated at 16)

Also all names I have checked are NOT full details only first name, and in one case appears as a 'known' as - I suggest further research may reveal other instructors from list - My guess is that the photo was signed by the people or just who owned it put the names on it

    example

"Aedy, Richard" is probably 568825 Ronald Godfrey Aedy 568825 "1926" Royal Air Force -- Known as Richard ?
    others

Abbott, George 569275 George Edward Leonard Abbott 569275 1926 Royal Air Force
Abercromby, David 569523 David John Abercromby 569523 1926 Royal Air Force
Ackroyd, Stanley 568926 prob Stanley Raymond Ackroyd 568926 1926 Royal Air Force

Ainley, Alfred 569366 Alfred John Ainley 569366 1926 Royal Air Force

Albrecht, John 569046 John Martin Beart Albrecht,

No 33 Entry at Halton began in January 1936 and was allocated the numbers 568814 to 569665 so clearly your father wasn't a member of the Entry, as you say, on account of his age, service number and being close to discharge.

Malcolm - Do you have service number allocations for all the Entries ? Thanks Paul

    Hi Paul/Peter

I do have the service numbers for entries 1 - 127, Feb 1920 to May 1976.

I will scan it and let you have copies, when time permits

    Malcolm,

May I also request a copy please? This would most useful for my service number database.

Eternally grateful if you could, sir!

    Hi lyffe,
That was my original conclusion, and why I have been trying to find the original source for the entry list, with the hope it might have service numbers.

    hi Malcolm,

With your list of entries, I assume you have checked the 33rd, and can eliminate the possibility that there was another Arthur Davis in the entry. Can you confirm please?

Thanks to all members for their contributions.

I suggest 33rd Entry Arthur Davis is actually

    568769 Arthur Thornton Davis
