Default Flight Lt F I Norris - Pilot of Short Stirling in Xv Squadron

I would be grateful for any guidance on tracking information on Flight Lieutenant F I Norris and his crew.

He was the pilot of Short Stirling BK654 on a raid to Wuppertal on 29 May 1943.

    His crew were Flight Sergeants

    • W. Towse
    • M Docherty
    • C Clothier
    • A Ransome
    • G Westwood
    • G Hughes
    • R Reed

Having recently come into the possession of a personal account of the raid by the navigator I'm keen to know more about the whole crew.

    Any information would be welcomed.

    Thanks

    Hi,

He gets a number of mentions in ‘Oxford Own’ the history of XV Sqn. If you contact me off line on harleyDOT158ATbigpondDOTcom replace the DOT & AT with the usual I’d be happy to scan the pages for you.

    Cheers,

    John.

    Hello,

I can tell you, that F/Sgt Wilfred Towse, 2nd Dickey to F/L Norris on the 29/30 May, 1943 Wuppertal raid, later had to ditch XV Sqn, Stirling III EH890 (BCL4/203), returning from Wuppertal, on 24/25 June, 1943. Sgt R T Martin baled out and was taken POW. Towse and the rest of his crew were picked up safely two hours later. Towse and Sgt N J Pawley were awarded immediate DFMs. Wasn't the end of Towse's troubles, he was killed raiding Essen in XV Sqn Stirling III BK805 on 25/26 July, 1943 (BCL4/240), the rest of the crew became POWs.

You will find a non-de-script photo of Stirling BK654:LS-W (touching down at Mildenhall), here:
