Default 84 Sqn RAF Baghdad Iraq November 1920 - bomb explosion?

    Hi,
I am currently researching an airman who served with 84 Sqn in Iraq during the 1920's, his papers state "injured bomb explosion Baghdad" date 8th Nov 1920, could this be a terrorist bomb or an accident? If anybody has a copy of the ORB for 84 Sqn for this period I would appreciate a look up if possible. Any info would be great,
    cheers,
    Rick

Rick, if you would register you can download the ORB free of charge at the moment. Or just click on link "Preview an image of this record." and try your luck

    Rick, Hi,
Flt Lt Albert Edgar Gendle (on Met duties) was killed by robbers not far from the main railway station in Baghdad on 7 Dec 1923. In the 1920’s there was some considerable political unrest all over Iraq (and surrounding areas). This is the time when Trenchard’s “aerial policing” (or “quelling”, as the anti-colonialists might say!) was being put into practice. I cannot answer your question directly but an ‘explosion’ would seem to be part of what we would, today, call ‘terrorist’ activities!

    Hello,

On 1 November (1920), another crew was lost when an aircraft* taking-off accidentally dropped one of its bombs. Not only was the aircraft and its crew lost but (D.H.9A) E779**, immediately below was also destroyed.
