    Default CWGC Appeals for relatives

Members and readers may be interested to know that The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has, in recent weeks, been seeking to contact next of kin for service personnel who fell in war, for quite a number of war graves. The appeals appear on their News page. This, for me, is a new development at CWGC - and perhaps for others.

The lists of 12 Oct and 24 Sep are shown as images only, so cannot be searched on by engine nor [Ctrl F] on page.
As there are several RAF men listed, used the linked doc download to list them and copy their service nos, names (surname, forenames) and other details here:

    24 Sep list

    PONTYPOOL (PANTEG) CEMETERY

The private memorial marking the grave of Flight Sergeant Savery no longer provides adequate commemoration. The Commission would like to make contact with the grave owner
(Casualty id 4019487, file ref CEM 9228)

    12 Oct list
    297055 BARKER S

The private memorial marking the grave of Air Mechanic 2nd Class Barker no longer provides adequate commemoration. The Commission is in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave
(Casualty id 395052 file ref CEM 7324)

    88733 JAMES ARTHUR HOOD
    23/09/1940

    PILOT OFFICER
    EDINBURGH (WARRISTON) CEMETERY
    Sec L. Grave 452
The private memorial marking the grave of Pilot Officer James does not provide adequate commemoration. The Commission is in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave
(Cas id 2452364 file ref CEM 528)

    [ ] NORMAN GEOFFREY HAMILTON
    18/08/1921
    ROYAL AIR FORCE
    SQUADRON LEADER
    SAVOY CHAPEL, WESTMINSTER
(Cas id 384528 file ref CEM 10619)
The grave of Squadron Leader Norman is currently unmarked. The Commission is in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave

Perhaps family/next of kin may now find these appeals and follow through: at least in copying the list, the names become searchable in the usual ways.
