Default F/O Stanley Warren Reeder (172402) 608 Squadron Lost over Berlin 11/10/44

Good Evening All & Thank you for letting me join RAF Commands.

Like many people I have used the lock down to start a proper Family Tree, and with Ancestry's help am now in touch with a cousin who introduced me to my Uncle Stanley Warren Reeder, who was the second son of my late Dad's paternal Aunt.

Stanley was a F/O from RAFVR and with 608 Squadron flying Mosquito XXs from Downham Market, and his last mission was on the night of 11/12 October 1944 when he flew a mission over Berlin with his Navigator F/S R J Bolton RAAF in KB364.

He was just 23 when he made the ultimate sacrifice and is buried with RJ Bolton in the Berlin 1939-45 War Cemetery.

I'm doing my best to find out all I can about Stanley's last mission, and would like to know if there is any record showing where his Mosquito came down, and if it was claimed as a victory by a Nachtjager or if he fell to flak.

I understand there are two comprehensive books on Luftwaffe Night Fighters " Nachtjagd War Diaries Vol.2 Aprill 1944-May 1945" and " Luftwaffe Night Fighter Claim: Combat Claims by Luftwaffe Night Fighter Pilots 1939 -1945" that are out of print or available only on back order right now.

If anyone has either of these books and would kindly let me know if there is any record of a claim relating to KB364 I would be extremely grateful.

I'm aware that there may be Mosquito claims made by Kurt Welter during this time, but frustratingly, there are 2 claims for Mossies between September and December that are undated.

Any help or tips for extending this research and learning more about Stanley would be very welcome.

May I Thank You All in advance, Please Stay Safe & Well in these unprecedented times,

    With Warmest Regards,

    Kevin

He seems to have been lost on Mosquito KB348 on 12 Oct 44

    Confirmed via https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...mageViewerLink Page 13

KB364 was lost on a different date and crew

    Hello Kevin,

You can read the Bolton RAAF Casualty File here:

    https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/Sear...aspx?B=1064855

"Aircraft crashed 1 kilometre south-west of Nedlitz, near Potsdam."

    Best regards

Jagan - Thank You, yes, I picked up KB 364 on an earlier search, forgive me.

I have a photo of Stanley that I will upload, I have a friend in Munich and will visit the Berlin Cemetery to pay my Respects when travel returns to some normality.
I believe the words on IBCC are from his Mum, Jane Reeder, nee McDonald: " It's not the words, they are but few, it's the loving memory we keep of you"

    Kevin,

That is great news. Even greater news would be if we could all see this material, instead of it being bottled up in some dusty filing cabinet until someone sees fit to publish selected items of it. Jagan, or one of the Mods, could assist in putting it up on the RAFCommands Forum.

    Please give it some thought.

    Col,

    Absolutely !

I want to tell the story of Stan & Bob on a human level, I want to understand what they both did in their all too short lives that brought them to that fateful night on 11/12th October 1944. Between the UK, Australia, the US and Germany I'm learning much by the hour, and I'll make the trip to Nedlitz, Potsdam and Berlin and record that in as much detail as possible.

    Warmest Regards,

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

I have Theo Boiten’s Nachtjagd War Diaries and he has no mention of the loss of Mosquito KB348, his second edition Nachtjagd Combat Archives is not yet up to that point in time. I’ll drop him an email and see if he has anything on this loss.

    Cheers,

    John.

    Hi John,

    Thank You, Very Much !

I stayed up late last night / this morning as I found F/S Robert John Bolton's family in Australia via Ancestry.

Today I have two messages from his Niece and 1st Cousin, and there are documents including Bob's 1944 diary and mentions of Stan and Mr & Mrs Reeder sending Bob's Niece and Nephew Christmas gifts.

As I learn more I will share, I am Exceptionally grateful for all you help and advice here.

    Warmest Regards,

    Kevin
