    Default Hampden p1344

    Hi

I am trying to find the exact location of the crash of Hampden P1344 which was shot down and crashed at Petsamo in 1942. It was recovered to the UK in 1989 and now is being restored at Cosford as everyone knows.

What I am looking for is the map reference of where the aircraft crashed. I emailed Cosford and they were very good but could not give me the details as the aircraft was recovered by a Canadian Jeet Mahal who I have been having difficulty tracking down.

I have checked at NCAP and there are no images available.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Mike

    Mike,
that Hampden, an excellent restoration job they have indeed done. I have seen it. The RAF Cosford Restoration Centre opens to the public for just one week in November and I visited November last. They had a big display re the history and recovery of P1344 with the manager and all staff to hand to answer any queries. Its on again this November. I suggest you pay a visit and get all your enquiries answered in person, (I recommend anyone pay it visit), theres a lot to see, including the Wellington. Its already in my calender

I should have added, as a bonus, you'll get to see the main RAF Cosford museum which in itself is a wonderful place to visit. I combined the two which made the trip from London more than worthwhile.
