    Hello there,
    I am trying to locate a photo of William Albert Lovell, who flew with 263 sqn on Whirlwinds, then with the 94th FS/1st FG on Lightnings.

    You will find two photographs of William Albert Lovell in the following publication:

    263 And 137 Squadrons The Whirlwind Years, Robert Bowater, N.P., Fonthill Media,2013:

    p.61 - Six of the RCAF pilots posted to the squadron at the beginning of October - Bill Lovell, Eddie Brearley, John McClure, John Michener, Bob Brennan and Hap Kennedy (Source: Hap Kennedy archives).

    p.91 - P/O William Lovell was discharged from the RCAF and joined the USAAF on 29 September (Source: Jane Renton archives). (Depicts Lovell seated in the cockpit of a 263 Sqn Whirlwind).

    Servive No.: J15275 RCAF.
    Rank: Sergeant; Flight Sergeant on 1 February 1942; Pilot Officer on 29 April 1942.
    Squadron: 263.
    Flight: "A".
    In: 9 October 1941 from 55 OTU.
    First Whirlwind Op: 7 January 1942.
    Out: 29 September 1942 to USAAF.
    Hours:105:05 on 96 ops.
    Nickname: Bill.
    Remarks: From Pennsylvania, he crossed the border into Canada in June 1940 to join the RCAF and arrived in England in July 1941. Discharged from the RCAF to join the USAAF, s/n O-885238, he was posted to the 94th 'Hat in the Ring' Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Group flying P-38s in North Africa and was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart. He failed to return from a combat near Bizerte, Tunisia, on 11 February 1944 [sic]*, in P-38F 41-7581, and his name appears on the tablet at the North African American Cemetery, Carthage, Tunisia

    * 2/Lt William A Lovell, was killed in action on 11 January 1943 - see: HMAW3/Shores et al/pp.247-9.

    Usual problem - no scanner. Maybe one of the other Forumites can help.

    As usual you have given me chapter and verse, this time on William Albert Lovell.
    I could never have found all these details, many thanks.
    Don't worry about the scanner, I am on my 3rd and they get more complicated, this time so many features the mind boggles.
