    Default Struggling 1838290 F/S C or J or V Cummings Bomb Aimer

I have just trawled through AIR 78 searching for a Bomb Aimer who flew with 630 Sqdn in May and June 1944 in the crew of Brian Lindsay DFC, later 97 Sqdn.

He was 1383290 F/Sgt Cummings, initials (when given) were variously C or J or V. I cant find him in Air 78 as Cummins or Cummings.

Can anybody give me a pointer please, I'm struggling. Has anybody got the 97 Sqdn ORB, I think the crew transferred soon after their last Op with 630 on 16/17 June 1944.

I've also been unable to trace their South Rhodesian mid-upper gunner SR710265 Sgt (L or A) Rainford if anybody has knowledge of him ?

    thanks for any assistance PeteS

Possibly it's neither Cummins nor Cummings, and the number may be wrong too...

Air 78/40 has: CUMMING Charles 1367290 which I think may be him?

There is every possibility it is one of a lost batch of cards.

A while ago I tried to identify a Sgt R Glazier of 228 Squadron. His service number was 1382882 which is only 400 or so away from yours. No trace of the card was unearthed.

I have just noticed the disparity between the service numbers you posted in the title and the body, namely 1383290 and 1838290. 1838290 is the one recorded in the ORB when F/S Cummings joined the unit in May 1944 but according to records this service number was never allocated.

    Thank you Cozzy and Simon

I did wonder about that one Simon, and yes you are right Cozzy, thanks. I think it most likely that he is the Charles which Simon found or that it's in a missing batch, it is a mystery to ponder a bit further. Thanks to you both.
