Default Which Spitfire and which Pilot ???

    Hello ,

To try to clear things up.

We start with a search for the a/c flown by P/O. J.M.STRAWSON who ditched in the Thames Estuary on the 7/10/1940
An answer provided the serial number as N3109.
    BUT
N3109 was the a/c flown by F/O. H.K.F.MATTHEWS 40551 according to FCL vol 1 revised edition.
Checking on this forums database for Matthews up comes the following -
    F/O. Henry Key Fielding MATTHEWS - 40551(Pilot) - Whitley K9087 - Air81/3674 - 603 Sqn. Followed by Air27(Beckenham Cream&Cem).
K9087 was part of a cancelled batch of Whitley's.
So then looked up K9087 at the Air81 reference and this gave the following -
    P/O.HKF Matthews killed, shot down by enemy action in Spitfire K9087 , 603 Sqn, 7 Oct 1940. - C16687772.
C16687772 confirmed K9087 as a Spitfire shot down by an enemy aircraft flown by P/O. HKF MATTHEWS of 603 Sqn.
So then looking at the FCL vol1 revised again and there was Spitfire K9807 , 603 Sqn, shot down on 5/10/1940, pilot P/O.J.S.MORTON wounded, baled and burned after combat with JG53 over Dover at 1155.

As there was No Spitfire OR Whitley with the serial number K9087.
Then which Spitfire's were MATTHEWS and STRAWSON flying on the 7/10/1940 and which Spitfire was MORTON flying on the 5/10/1940 ??? One at least must have been in N3109. What were the serial numbers of the other two and which pilots were flying which aircraft ???

Sorry for the longwinded question ,
    Alex
