    Default 186 Squadron, Hurricanes Crashes 1943

    Hi,

    Looking for details please on three Hurricane Mk.IV crashes with 186 Squadron.

    October 24th 1943, F/Sgt J.M Wood. Killed. Aircraft s/n and crash location.
    October 29th 1943, F/Sgt J.V.B Homewood.Aircraft s/n and crash location.
    October 29th 1943, Sgt H.M McLaughlin RCAF. Aircraft s/n and crash location.

    I have the ORB but just cannot read the poor quality print.

    Homewood: KZ375 near Sauchie
    McLaughlin: KW810 near Sauchie

    Additional Info regarding F/Sgt John Michael Wood

    No.186 Sqn,Ayr
    Hurricane IV KZ707

    Hit HT cables during low-level exercise and crashed near Annbank, Ayrshire.

    776194 F/Sgt (Pilot) John Michael WOOD RAFVR +

    Buried Ayr Cemetery, Ayrshire.

    Extract from 186 Squadron ORB:

    29th October 1943 : GOLLIATH II

    8 aircraft were flown to Turnhouse, but only one attack was made owing to bad vis.
    During attack, F/Sgt Homewood and Sgt McLaughlin collided, both pilots were killed. This happened near Sauchie, Alloa.
    Hurricane Mk.IV s/n KZ375 F/Sgt Homewood
    Hurricane Mk.IV s/n KZ810 Sgt McLaughlin
    1st November 1943
    F/Lt R.Sweeting left for Haywoods Heath to attend funeral of F/Sgt Homewood.
    4th November 1943
    F/Sgt Homewood buried at Haywoods Heath.

    The serial No of McLauchlin's machine should read KW810, KZ810 is part of a blackout block.

    I have seen the death certs for all three pilots, the two at Sauchie hold no more precise location information.

    Wood's cert. has 'Knockshoggie Farm, Coylton' as the location.
