Pete: That Sortie Record Sheet was exactly what I wanted to find in my uncle's service file - alas no such luck. Really should be one in every crewmembers record. I have looked through several files and nothing like that turned up. Many thanks for posting it.

With few exceptions the logbooks of deceased RCAF personnel were returned, unsolicited, to next of kin approximately two years after the war. However, on several occasions the family had moved and could not be traced. In these circumstances the logbooks were added to the service files of the personnel, where I discovered more than a few when I was doing research in those files.

The disposition of the logbooks returned to families was, of course, up to the next of kin. I recall finding a logbook in a file (though the name escapes me) that had evidently been left in a house when the family moved; the new owner of the house discovered the document and sent it to Ottawa where it was reunited with the service file.

Thank you, Don. I will check those out. Unfortunately I'm beginning to believe it was, in fact, sent back to the family but with the death of his parents seems to have been lost in the shuffle. Such a shame.
