    Default IWM images, Pforzheim, February 23, 1945

    Dad was on this op. The IWM has the following images for this night:

    Image 3 shows a very bright “flash” upper left. Is this an Illuminator flare? A fighter flare? Or a bombing photo flash? IWM indicates it’s a photo flash. I’m assuming the “puffs” are flak and the bright “stars” centre and right are path finder markers.

    Not a single strike photo for night raids in dads collection shows any ground detail or photo flash.

    I have a photo from the Modane raid in September 1943 taken immediately after the bombs were released from my uncle's aircraft. The bombing photoflash was a bright light with "blobs" of light radiating at irregular angles rather than the regular sunburst of the flash upper left you are talking about.
