752583 R H Mott

Hi, I have been trying to trace the names of this 630 Squadron Mid Upper Gunner. He was known as Ron and in places F541's show him as R H and F540's as R.

I have tried AIR 78 and found his card but was surprised that it has initials only. Can anybody suggest why that might be and what his names might be please - the obvious guess is Ronald but the logical is not always right.

Robert? This interview with Ray Charlton, of 630 and 57 Sqn:

has the following:

"The crew was with us until we lost the mid upper gunner and then we swapped to Bob, Bob Mott, and he fitted in absolutely marvellous."

The interview mentions that Bob Mott was married to Jean 'Giliatt' until Mott suddenly died and that Ray Charlton later married her. The BMD register has Robert H. Mott marrying Jean M. Guilliatt, Scunthorpe, 1945. Possibly Robert Henry Mott, d. 1963?

and going on the transcription about marrying 10 years after first husband death and living in Southampton make it

Do you think there is any significance to his 75 series service number and lack of first names on the AIR 78 ?

I believe the 75 series number makes him a pre-war RAFVR member, did their AIR 78 cards only have initials ?

Thanks for the correction Paul.

He's on a family tree on ancestry.co.uk which confirms those dates and that he was married to Jean M. Guilliatt, and seems to have been know as 'Jim' just to confuse matters!
