Horsham and Lancasters (Dec 1943)

Please can anybody educate me ? Why would aircrew of 630 Squadron fly one of their Lancasters to Horsham in early Dec 1943 and fly a different one back on the same day ? Was there an AVRO facility there or an MU ?

PeteS, Hi,
Dec 43 – Horsham is USAAF. A few days before, a 630 Sqdn Lanc had lobbed in there returning from a raid, and partially u/s. Fitters went down by road. Repaired a/c. Yr crew flew a fully serviceable Lanc down to Horsham with a spare crew. They flew the ‘dodgy Lanc’ back to E Kirkby, while the fitters flew back with the Op returned crew in the ‘good Lanc’!! And the Nav’s brother was born in Peru! (And if you’ll believe that, you’ll believe anything – I used to write/edit a staff monthly magazine at one stage!!!).
