Could the pilot Banks have meant theA37 Saro Shrimp, which was a half scale aircraft an d which was at MAEE in 1940. See here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyMnQR4bdpY.

Test pilot David Kynvin Banks said he flew Ladybird, a scaled model of the Princess flying boat before its production. This was in the early 1940s while with MAEE, However the quality of sound is poor on the IWM interview with Banks and he did not elaborate. I am trying various resources to find out about Ladybird, an elusibe bird! RAF Commands has always been a good source for information. I wonder if it can help on this occasion. No one seems to know anything about the Ladybird.

yes he may have but in the IMW interview says Swallow and later mentions the Saro. Maybe his nickname for the latter. Only other possibility a Polez but would have Britain had one?
Banks must have referred to the Saro by his nickname Ladybird.
