The UK issue of WW2 medals and claps began in 1946. Both recipients and NoK had to apply for awards using the forms available in local post offices..
I believe the Battle Of Britain clasp was not distributed until 1945, is anyone aware please if it was sent out automatically by the Air Ministry or did pilots have to apply for it at that time ? and what was the procedure for the award for those pilots who had been killed later in the war ?

My apologies for a typo above. Medals and clasps were issued in the UK from 1 June 1948.
