From Wings over Wiltshire (where else)

On 4 July 1944 the Test Pilot Training Flight lost Wellington Mk III X3549 when carrying out longitudinal stability tests; it crashed at Chilmark killing Flt Lt Norman J Bonnar, AFC, and Flt Lt Laurence R Brady.

No mention of the ORs. From the CWGC Brady was RAAF (402488) and is buried at Brookwood.

Re: RAF - BICKELL, PARSONS & POPEJOY.

The above were not aboard Wellington III X3549. They lost their lives aboard Wellington XIV HF352.

    Hi Col

My mistake I should have written 'Wellington XIV HF352' not X3549.

Apologies Col, I guess I should have written "where else for Wiltshire accidents". The main thing is that the error has been identified - which is what the forum is so good at doing.

    Hello,

Does anyone have anymore information about FS Thomas PETTY, mentioned in the post; 2nd April 2014, 18:41. I came across his grave in Lincoln and would like to know how and where he served and died.

Not much help on the CWGC, which doesn't list a unit on the Graves Registration Report Form.

However, his death was announced in the Lincolnshire Echo of July 6th 1944 and gives a specific place of death:

PETTY - on the 4th July, 1944, at St. Florence, South Wales, Thomas Christopher, Flight-Sergt., R.A.F., the beloved husband of Hilda.
