400386 W/O Kennerley Birch KINGSTON RAAF (ex-No.1 Squadron RAAF), was officially discharged from the RAAF on 16 February, 1946. Kingston had been taken prisoner in Java, 8 March, 1942 (POW No.8484) . He was subsequently on the Burma Railway and later held at Omuta-Fukuoka #17, Japan (working in the mines), and released at the end of the war. Kennerley Kingston, who had married on 29 February, 1946, was found dead by his wife in their flat at Mornington, Victoria, on 13 March, 1947, a single-barrelled shotgun by his side. Kingston, an ex-Melbourne Grammar School Old Boy, had been in ill-health for some time and had been receiving treatment at the Heidelberg Military Hospital.
