Reply from the CWGC, I can't recall what message I sent them:

Dear Mr Burke,

Thank you for your email of 11th May.

I have examined our records and all the information we have here states his date of death as 9th February 1942. Our Grave documents also state his date of death on his headstone is 9th February 1942.

If you have documentary and photographic evidence to prove otherwise, do send it on to me and we will investigate further.

I've emailed them back the photo from the CVWM , very infuriating. Perhaps its been amended since the photo was taken last year?

Thank you for the photograph. We also work with The War Graves Photographic Project who currently hold a photograph. I will look into this further with them and see if we have any evidence to suggest when a change was made, or if in fact it is a human error!

AC1 George MERCER - 1094791 - the Statutory Deaths Register on the Scotland's People website records that he died between 10.45 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. at 45 Bowhouse Road, Alloa, due to coal gas poisoning. His age is given as 36, not 26 as per the CWGC entry.
