LITTLE, Samuel Kirk - AC2c - 947680 - the Dundee Courier of April 19th 1940 reported that he died after the RAF lorry he was driving collided with a hearse at the junction of Abernethy Road and the main Perth to Edinburgh road at the Baiglie Inn some seven miles from Perth. He was thrown from the lorry and succumbed to his injuries on the way to Perth Infirmary

9070 AC1 Frederick Lister EDWARDS RAAF

9070 AC1 (Messman) Frederick Lister EDWARDS RAAF (of No.1 Elementary Flying Training School, Parafield, South Australia), was killed on 18 April, 1940, in a road accident on his way home from Parafield aerodrome.

AC1 Edwards RAAF died from injuries received, near Gepp's Cross, North Adelaide, when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle driven by William Edwin Hill Pascoe. Pascoe stated that he heard a crash and simultaneously saw something in front of his car resembling a bicycle wheel! Pascoe's vehicle travelled forty feet before stopping. AC1 Edwards was killed instantly, the cause of death being a fractured skull and a broken neck.

The drama didn't end there. Driver Pascoe, was standing on the roadway after the accident and was grazed by another vehicle passing by. He was uninjured. The vehicle that grazed Pascoe careered on and struck the open door of the ambulance sent to remove the body of the unfortunate Edwards. Remarkably, little damage was done to the vehicles.

AC1 Edwards, a former policeman, was born in Lisbon, Portugal, on 31 May, 1905. He claimed to have submitted an application to join the RAF in 1921.

Because he was not on duty at the time of his death, Edwards' wife, Mary Elizabeth, was unable to claim compensation from the RAAF. They generously provided him with a service funeral.

At the Inquest, Pascoe, after making a short statement, categorically refused to answer any questions put to him by the Mr J. L. Travers, who appeared for the relatives of the deceased. He claimed the answers might tend to incriminate him!! The deputy Coroner returned an Open Finding.
