Stweart and Grice appear in Died on Active Service Lists
    http://skynet.ie/~dan/war/flightsa/1...nscription.htm

Pitt-Payne is listed as DOAS here - http://kingscollections.org/warmemor...lliam-stephens
Since he was medical and buried in Delhi, I'd see it as non flying related.

Grice's Will calender entry does state he died on war service, which goes against his listing of DOAS in RAF Cas Com but I guess there were mistakes.

    Hello

    UK
    GRICE, Arthur Leslie - W/Cdr - 75284 - a family tree on ancestry.co.uk has the following:

According to death certificate, Leslie was involved in an accident when a mustard gas mine exploded at the premises where he was working. He was taken to St. Richard’s hospital in Chichester and died there from internal burns and oedema to his lungs.

Furthermore, the Daily Mirror of October 30th 1943 reported the following:

    Experiment that went wrong

Behind a notice "Died on Active Service" lies the story of how Wing Commander Arthur L. Grice, M.M., of Marsworth Avenue, Pinner, Middlesex, met his death on a South Coast RAF station.
Something went wrong...a result, Wing Commander Grice has died and eighteen other officers and men are in a local hospital, more or less seriously injured.
At a secret inquest on Wing Commander Grice, the Chichester Coroner, Mr. H. N. Hignett, found a verdict that was not disclosed, although it is known that a rider was added.
A Service inquiry will follow the coroner's civilian inquest.

MOFFAT, Andrew Leitch - Cpl - 309825 - the Statutory Deaths Register on the Scotland's People website records that he was found dead at 2.30 pm.m at 20, Howden Street, Edinburgh. Death is recorded as due to coal gas poisoning (suicide).

    Regards

    Simon
