    Default Resigned RAF 1947

My uncle resigned from the RAF in March 1947, having joined in 1937. He was posted to 101 PDC which I believe was at Warton at the time and released the next day. My question is: As he reigned would he had gone through the normal demob process, would he have had s suit etc?

    Cheers

Thanks - I supposed you have tracked his career via London Gazette - It will mention something like that '"Flying Officer XXXX #123455 Resigned Commission on ?"

No, I hadn't thought of that, thank you. I will look into that. Still need try and find out if he would have been processed through the PDC like a demob regardless of resigning and if given a suit. The reason asking is there is a tale of his brother in law getting his uniform and overcoat but I reckon that got to be more likely his demob suit if had one.

I had a look and nothing showing for him that I can see, other than his two promotions.

    John Hewson Thomas #56656
I have The London Gazette, Supplement 37046, Page 2157 promotion to P/O
& The London Gazette, Supplement 37264, Page 4573 promotion to F/O

His records mentions refer to file F7 for calculation retired pay. It also says to retain F/O rank with commission relinquished 07/07/1959

    Hi Bob
Not unusual for ex service people to still have uniforms post war.

My Uncle ended up as a Sqn Ldr (equip branch) and still had his uniform at Home in the early 60's - he had retired at own request in 1948.

When your uncle retired did he get a demob suit etc like enlisted men did?

    I am not sure Bob
I am fairly sure that ex officers did get demob clothing etc whilst the demob centres were operating - they were still operating in 1947 but I do not know when they were closed down.
Similar to your Uncle (I believe) -my Uncle was a pre war regular (he was a Cpl in 1939) and had completed approx 20 years service when he demobbed.
