    Thanks for this. Do you know what this means? It's a bit vague, and I wonder since he was posted to HQ Northern Signals Area the following day if it is a reference to this posting?

    Warrant Officer FA Ridge was posted to Hornchurch on 2 January 1940 and remined there until 10 November 1940. Does anyone have any information on what his role was there? I assume he worked on station signals, but I'm hoping someone with knowledge of Hornchurch during the Battle of Britain period might have come across a reference to him.

    Hi Ian

    HQ (Unit) simply means he was on the staff of the HQ rather than a subordinate unit controlled by the HQ
