Default RAF Station Wick 1942 - TNA guidance required

    Hi,
I am researching an airman - Sgt GJN Dobson who was posted on detachment from 144 Squadron to RAF station Wick on 24th Dec 1942, I am assuming that as 144 converted from Hampdens some crews were posted for other duties. Is there a Station record book for RAF Wick at the NA? If so, where would I look to find it? Any help of guidance would be greatly appreciated,

    Cheers,
    Rick

    Hi Rick,

Station ORBs are under AIR 28. I would assume the following would be relevant to you:-

    AIR 28/915 - WICK - 1939 Sept.- 1943 Dec.

    AIR 28/933 - WICK - Appendices 1942 Oct.- 1943 Feb.

    And possibly
    AIR 28/944 - WICK - Appendices: photographs Parts 1, 2, 3, 4 Loose - 1943 Jan.- 1944 July
    AIR 28/917 - WICK: (Sector HQ KIRKWALL) - 1940 Jan.- 196 Mar.

Note that none of these are digitised and would have to be viewed in person.

    Hope this helps,

    Jeff

Rick, I looked in the station ORB for Wick but no mention of your man Dobson, but in 144 Sqn ORB for Dec 42 he is mentioned as Sgt G.Dobson 1053458 WO/AG. As you said
posted on detachment to Wick on 24 Dec 42. He is mentioned on 16th Jan 43 in 144 ORB in Hampden `J` with F/Sgt D.Hamer, Australian Nav Sgt E.J.Kidby and WO/AG F/Sgt A.Yale. Having taken off at 16.00, set course from Leuchars for position RDLE 0335, but developed stbd engine trouble, low temp and loose engine cowl, so returned to base at 16.15 and landed safely. Regards Dave.

Rick, can`t really help with 220 Sqn if you`ve already searched ORB. I did find he was with 8 Sqn after the war though, perhaps if you work your way
back in the 8 Sqn ORB it might trace more movements.

    8 Squadron
    1272228 W/O. Nav.B. Turpin C.G.J. 1053458 W/O. Wop/Air Dobson C.J.N.
3051285 Sgt. F/Eng. Bussey O. 575247 St. Wom/Air Jackson C.E. Posted from RAF Bhopan (Sup. for flying duties wef. 25/10/45.

    Rick,
Don't know about Bhopan, but Malcolm's RAFWEB has got a list of Units at Bhopal?
