    Duty: Reconnaissance

Took off from MEHARICOURT for VITRY at the request of 52 Wing for the loan of a crew from 70 Wing. He carried out a successful reconnaissance on the 15th of May, and took off for another on the 16th. On this occasion, he received a bullet through the neck which passed out through his jaw on the other side. He succeeded in flying the aircraft back to VITRY but later died from his wounds and the effects of travelling caused by the enforced move of the C.C.S. he was in. The Observer was also wounded in the left arm.

AC1 Dockray is in the Casualty Lists as 'Died on Active Service'. From his funeral notice:-

"The funeral took place yesterday at Horsforth Cemetery of Aircraftman Henry Dockray, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Dockray, 72, Broadgate Lane, Horsforth, who died in a R.A.F hospital."

It's not much but might be a start for others
