Default Flying Officer E W Yates - Died early August 1939.

    Good evening,

FOUND - Information gained from http://www.rcawsey.co.uk/Acc1939.htm

I'm researching the deaths of 3 RAF personnel following a mid-air collision in August 1939, 3 miles north of Lossiemouth in the Moray Firth. I'm particularly keen to identify more information about Flying Officer E W Yates. (Australian)

The other airmen involved were Acting Pilot Officer D H L Allwood and Corporal R C Morrell.

Flying Officer Yates had recently transferred from RAF Montrose to RAF Lossiemouth in July 1939.

Information on the crash was found in a news clipping from the Montrose Standard of 11 August 1939, however I cannot find any other information on the incident or the 3 airmen involved. Ideally I would like to establish Flying Officer Yates' forenames and service number.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers

I believe this is his A9300 file as an Australian cadet
    https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/Sear...5263444&isAv=N

And he appears to have come up before:

"The undermentioned are granted short service commissions as Pilot Officers for 5 years on the active list with effect from and with seniority of 19th Feb. 1937:-
    39476 - YATES, Eric Wilson"

"The undermentioned Pilot Officers are promoted to the rank of Flying Officer on the dates stated:
19th Sept. 1938. Eric Wilson YATES"

A few articles via Trove although some might just be syndicated versions from the newspaper listed. I also have a note indicating Yates was possibly attached to 607 Sqn from RAF Station Unsworth during Aug 1938 not sure if same Yates, needs confirmation.
