    Very sad.
    I believe that this may be Whitley Z6743 of 77 Squadron. (Chorley 1941 - page 89)

    If this is the case then the deceased airman in the foreground of the photograph would be one on the three Sergeants who died. All three of them are listed by CWGC as RAFVR.

    McLean, Eaves and Brearley (Whitting was a P/O)

    I have informed the RAFAHB for their records.

    Pilot Officer Grahame Gordon WHITTING (85027)

    Western Daily Press - Friday 18 July 1941

    Pilot Officer Missing Pilot Officer G. G. Whitting (30), R.A.F.. of 66b, Pembroke Road, Clifton. Bristol, has been reported missing while engaged in active service over enemy territory. Educated at Clifton College, he was later on the travelling staff of Messrs W. D. and H. O. Wills. On the outbreak of war he became a member- of the Civil Air Guard, and a short while after joined the R.A.F.

    24.4.41 P/O G G Whitting returned from Astro Navigation Course (Canada) - me not AG he Navigator

    He was also on Incoming B-17 AN521 April 19, 1941 prob as Navigator
