Default Winston Vernon Stark RNZAF and Hurricane V6786 lost at Loch Levan 7/3/43

Database does not tie together pilot and aircraft here. Death register confirms locations agree. Sorry, I don't have the service number for Stark.

    Hello,

From, For Your Tomorrow - Vol.3/p.20:

    Service Number.

Numbers in the Royal Navy's 'FX' series were allotted to the first groups of airmen selected in New Zealand for the FAA (though apparently not until their arrival in Britain). Following the redesignation of the New Zealand Naval Forces (a division of the Royal Navy) as the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) in October 1941, four (later increasing to five) digit numbers were allotted to its ratings and prefixed 'NZ'. Officers were unnumbered

    FYT3/Martyn/p.20.

It is possible that V6786 (and that of V7605 on 16/4/43 pilot Sgt John Semmence Turner #1379187 (later #157697) RAF who survived) are still in the Loch

    Mojmir,
The service number displayed on the Cenotaph website is that which appled to Stark only while serving as a rating. Once he received a commission he was no longer numbered. Info on the Cenotaph website should always be treated with caution as it is sometime in error or not accompanied with context.

    Hello

For those who may not have seen it, there is a memorial to him at Loch Leven:

Thank you very much, Errol. I didn't read Col.'s post carefully.
