    Died of wounds sustained 14th May, '40. Cause ?

    LEWIS, Cecil Thomas ( Northern Ireland) - Sgt - 550668 - IBCC records that he was killed when he ran into a rotating propeller while taking cover in an air raid at 07.00.

    SPIRRELL, William John - Lac - 524121 - the inquest into his death was reported in the Western Morning News of June 15th 1940. It records that he drowned at the Point, Turnchapel, Plymouth after getting into difficulties, despite the efforts of his fiancee to save him. A verdict of "Accidental death" was recorded.

    "...P/O BELL on returning to CATTERICK AERODROME from W. HARTLEPOOL at dusk, unfortunately hit an aircraft pen on the aerodrome and crashed, and was admitted to CATTERICK HOSPITAL with severe injuries to his spine."

    07 Jun 40
    "The Squadron was informed that P/O BELL had died in HOSPITAL."
