    Hi Alex,

BEECROFT, John Thomas - Air Fitter (O) - L/FX.79011 - HMS Daedalus II - RN.
Newton ( St. Mary ) Churchyard, Hyde, Cheshire, UK.
    Cause of death ?
Although you and CWGC have John Thomas Beecroft, the Staffordshire Sentinel of 18 June 1940 has

"A verdict of Suicide while the balance of his mind was disturbed, was recorded by the Newcastle District Coroner (Mr. S. A. H. Hume), at Newcastle yesterday on George Thomas Beecroft,. aged 22. of 9. Newtonhurst. Newton. Hyde, Cheshire... was found 'hanging by a rope at Clayton yesterday."

Age and location seem to match - I believe HMS Daedalus II was at Clayton Hall at the time - so I assume the newspaper has made a mistake with his first name and this is in fact John Thomas Beecroft.

    Regards,

    Jeff

    Alex,

    DIXON, John Joseph - Lac - 532692 - RAF.
    JENKINS, Michael Thomas Emerson - P/O - 40832 - RAF.
These two airmen are commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt.
    They were crew of Wellsley I - L2694 - 223 Sqn.
    >> This serial is also quoted for the loss on 30-06-40 at: http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...men-30-06-1940
    Also at: http://www.rafcommands.com/database/...php?uniq=L2694
AIR81/931 is the cause of this error: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C14502563
The serial of the aircraft involved in this incident was L2654, as confirmed in the 223 Sqn ORB at AIR27/1374/2: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/D8394814
As a matter of interest, the aircraft was actually lost on 15-06-40. It was one of four up 1635, down 2334. Another instance of MIA reports being a day later then the actual incident.
