    Those year dates were as given by Forces War Records. I have never known precisely which event they refer to. I only included them for completness sake, and the hope that somebody knew what they meant!
    And as an Oh By The Way, Stow Ashton H 226244 1917 is Ashton Hamlin Stow. Two unusual Forenames. Born in a tiny Suffolk hamlet. Had a very unusual military career. A distraction? (easily done in my case!), but might make an interesting little article for some magazine? He might even be a distant rellie of your man?

    How about Arthur Stow, 230956, Sgt at the end of WW1 reinlisted August 1939 as AC2 Mechanic.

    Certainly an option. Thanks Alex. Its just a shame the RAF were so awful at recording information about aircrew ORs early in the war.
