Default Unaccounted Civilian Aircraft Workers Sept 11th 1940

I saw a Roll Of Honour Photo on Twitter for Cunliffe Owen factory

"On 11th September a raid on the airport at Eastleigh narrowly missed both the Supermarine hangars,
where Spitfire Final Assembly was being completed, and Flight Shed.

Unfortunately, although the Supermarine buildings escaped the neighbouring Cunliffe Owen factory was not so
lucky. Bombs falling on the factory causing serious damage and killing 52 workers"

These are the names on photo as written

During World War II This Factory had a fine record producing Wings and Fuselages
    for Hurricanes and Spitfires

On the afternoon of Wednesday September 11th 1940 6 German Bombers flying at a
low altitude dropped 16 bombs on the factory; a number of which fell on 'B' Building.
In this attack, 52 people were killed and 92 injured.

The scars from the attack can still be seen in the steelwork supporting the mezzanine
    floor

The only thing that has occurred to me is the question "Does one have to have a body before the medics can sign off the 'Cause of Death'!? Without which it cannot(??) be formally Registered. We are into technical nitty-gritty here!
Now there are laws dealing with this sort of thing (but I don't know what they are!), Formal Death (matters affecting Insurance, Property, Finance, Will(s), etc, etc) can - under certain circumstances - be assumed to have occurred after a given length of time (and supporting evidence). This missing trio were not AT war (so military regulations would not apply?). But they were IN a war - under civilian regulations?
Being very close to an exploding large bomb can - I would expect - reduce the human frame to its constituent cells instantaneously?!!! The reality of 'A Quick Death'?

    Paul

I see you found Wylde. I did wonder if 'A. E. Johnson' may be Albert Ernest Johns of Grove Road, Gosport, died November 9th 1940 aged 62. Not too far away, in name and geography, but date not right. Maybe injured in the attack? A long shot but...

I think A E Johnson is actually a mistake and I think Alfred Edward Johnson (think?) killed in air raid in 1942 on Supermarine

    Hi Peter,

Looked into your question a few years ago for civilian deaths.

Dilip Sarkar - then a serving police officer - used the Coroner definition about recovered remains to define whether a body had been found. From memory it was x kg of body mass and needed to include one or more organs that were specific for life to continue.

After that it was the three tests outlined in this wikipedia
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presumption_of_death

In most of the cases of my interest a Coroner Inquest a few weeks after the event led to subsequent recording in the death registers with a date of the event that was presumed to have caused death eg V2 explosion.

In a few, the register entry was several years later as per the wikipedia entry but included the phrase "death presumed on xxxx date". In this case it was for a family of three who were listed as residing at a flat in the destroyed block. The were refugee with no known UK contacts and the three tests could not be satisfied.
