    Alex,
I always look forward to another three-days worth of information!

    O'KELLY, Leo Frederick James - Sgt - 550918 - RAF.
    SHIER, William George - Sgt - 580983 - RAF.
These two airmen rest at Detling ( St. Martin ) Churchyard, Kent.
    WILSON, James - Sgt - 748404 - RAFVR.
    Kilmaurs Cemetery, Ayrshire.
    WORTON, Horace George - Sgt - 903377 - RAFVR.
Enfield ( Hertford Road ) Cemetery, Middlesex.
These four airmen were crew of Anson I - N5228 - 500 Sqn.
    >> Not relevant to this incident, but there is an error in the database for this aircraft:
    http://www.rafcommands.com/database/...php?uniq=N5228
Two different James Wilsons are listed.

    DENT, Christopher Joseph - Sgt - 755832 - RAFVR.
    WATSON, Thomas Colvin - P/O - 79577 - RAFVR.
These two airmen rest at Shawbury ( St. Mary the Virgin ) Churchyard, Shropshire.
    HANNAN, Hugh - Sgt - 629054 - RAF.
    Whitburn Cemetery, West Lothian.
    WILLIAMS, Arthur - Sgt - 646080 - RAF.
Llanguicke ( St. Ciwg ) Churchyard, Glamorganshire.
These four airmen were crew of Anson I - N5019 - 15 OTU.
    >> There seems to be confusion about the date of this incident. The TNA file says 9 July: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C16471776
    Anyone able to confirm please?

    WARD, Arthur Robert - AC2c - 906836 - RAFVR.
Silloth ( Causewayhead) Cemetery, Holme Low, Cumberland.
    Gauntlet II - K5316 - 1(C)OTU.

    WILKINSON, Harry - AC2c - 626304 - RAF.
Edinburgh ( Mount Vernon) Roman Catholic Cemetery, Edinburgh.
    Gauntlet II - K5316 - 1(C)OTU.
    >> This was an Anson, as per TNA, which is the source of the serial: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C16471779
I would think K6316 is likely to be the machine involved.

    Regards,
    Andy

    Default Re: 400710 - Unaccounted Airmen - 10-07-1940

    Yes, two Wilson's.
The one with the Anson N5228 was -
    WILSON, James - Sgt - 748404 - RAFVR.
    The other was -
WILSON, James - Lac - 533236 and wired on 25/01/1941 in Greece.

As for the other Anson, N5019.
The Anson File has - 15 OTU - Flew into mountain in low cloud, Llanwrtyd, near Rhayader, Radnorshire, 9.7.40.
So perhaps the event was at night ? Or the crew were not discovered until the next day, the 10th ?

Re the Gauntlet II - K5316, My own thoughts on this is that it is incorrect.

Anson File has for Anson K6316 -
    269(O)(KL-O) (UA-O) / 1 OTU - To RCAF 8.2.41.

    K File has for Gauntlet K5316 -
Deld to 9 FTS 2.7.36; 46 Sqn 10.11.36; 24 MU 17.2.39; 36 MU 21.3.39; shipped to ME 22.4.39; AD Aboukir as reserves; 33 Sqn 19.2.40; PRRP 24.6.40; Swung on landing and damaged wing, Ismailia 13.8.40; ROS. Swung on landing and undercarriage collapsed Ismailia 29.8.40; SOC 6.11.40.
So it would be hard for it to be in an accident in the UK on this date .
