    Alex,

Is it possible Air 81/1458 is in error and he wasn't killed at Detling on the 13 Aug?. There is an Albert Reginald Topham listed at https://victory4.co.uk/getperson.php...731&tree=wests. This reference describes him as being wounded at Detling on 13 August during an air raid.

    Born 07/07/1919 in Belfast.

He was groundcrew (Hurricanes) at Detling, having been turned down for pilot training on account of being colour blind. Wounded in Normandy circa 9 June 1944 and repatriated.

Died Castle Hill, Hull in 2004.

    Hi Alex, Brian,

Rumours of his (early) death may be exaggerated! Post by Martin Gleeson here has him injured, with reference to the 53 Squadron ORB (page 3) which lists him as 'Injured'. Those killed are listed on the previous page.

    Regards,

    Jeff

Thank you both for your responses.
I had not been able to find him in the CWGC website and as the Air 81 has been found to hold some errors I thought best to ask the question on forum.
    Many thanks to you both.
    Alex
