    Default Gee 1944/45

    Hi,

Were mobile Gee sites sent to Holland & France in 1944/45. ( I don't mean GH mobile sites)

Did the standard Gee extended to Norway and Denmark from the UK, or were mobile Gee stations set up on the continent post June 1944.

    Any help appreciated.

    Charles

Very timely. The answer is yes, there were Gee stations set up in France. Not sure they were particularly mobile, but I don’t have the details. There are comments in various ORBs at the Group and Base level that new chains had been set up in later 1944 and 1945, extending the range and reliability of Gee. I have been examining the navigator logs and charts for my father’s navigator for Chemnitz, March 5/6, and Dessau March 7/8, 1945. These were deep penetration raids and you can see where F/O Seale records his last Gee fix and starts to rely on H2S for fixes for position. And then the H2S and DR compass goes out and it’s all DR for a time.
