Default Kenneth Roxburgh Soward (NZ) Loss of Commission/ Termination Circa end 1926 / 1927

    All

I am much more certain of this one being a bit of a "wrong one"

Kenneth Roxburgh Soward was commissioned as follows

    The undermentioned are granted short
service commissions as Pilot Officers on probation, with effect from and with seniority
    of the 17th July, 1926 :
    Kenneth Roxburgh SOWARD.

He was training at 2 FTS until Dec 1926 (as per AFL) but then I could not find him - I suspect he was removed from Service as soon as his prior criminal activity in Australia was uncovered - So he had probably lied on application

I was hoping to find the actual date of his termination/removal from LG but cannot find it ? Can anyone else help

He was in Oz/NZ by Dec 1927 when he appears on NZ Police Gazette for another crime

"Soward, Kenneth Roxburgh, alias Soward, Kenneth Robert."

    He was also known as

    Kenneth Roxburghe Soward
    1907–1980

BIRTH 25 NOV 1907 • Rawhiti, Auckland, New Zealand

DEATH 7 AUG 1980 • Wellington, New Zealand

Apparently he served in the RNZAF WW2

    NEW ZEALAND BOLL OF HONOUR.

DEATHS. ; SOWARD, John Douglas, A.l.F.—Killed in action, beloved brother of K. R.. Soward, R.N.Z.A.F., of R.M.D., Upper Hutt. "Into the light that ■ nevermore shall 'fade.",

    Paul,
This chap is a 'new' New Zealander to me, though I would really prefer to be without him, given his 'career'!
He would appear to be same man as NZ4310741 Sowden, K R who enlisted in the RNZAF (probably mid-1943). I don't have the first names he enlisted under. He was not commissioned in the RNZAF.
    Cheers,
    Errol

    Is this the same chap?

    https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/a...418121/1298343

He's also mentioned in the New Zealand Police Gazette of May 14th 1930:

WAVERLEY - May Evelyn Booker's dwelling broken into : Kenneth Roxburgh Soward has been convicted of the offence. The stolen property has not been recovered. (See Police Gazette, 1930, page 186.)

And a few mentions in the Australia Police Gazette on ancestry.com.

EDIT - there are a few mentions in the newspapers on Trove: https://trove.nla.gov.au/search/cate...burgh%20Soward

A bit of a wrong 'un, by the sound of it...

    Regards

    Simon

    Yes that is him

He appears to have cleaned up his act after early 1930's and after last spell in jail in Oz (12 months) and NZ above- At some point he became civil servant and pillar of society - treasurer of tennis club etc and later local politician post war for National Party - though fined for tampering will election posters in 1950's -

re: NZ4310741 Sowden, K R who enlisted in the RNZAF (probably mid-1943) - Thanks Errol..

BTW these chaps are usually found in LG under the 'King has no further use of his services' or something similar - In the couple of cases I have found it is all "prior" commission activity - bankruptcy, criminality etc or maybe not entirely accurate on application

My bad - Sowden should read SowARD in my earlier post. (The bloke had enough aliases without me adding to them!)
