    Default 23 Sqd Aircrew Casualties - 29/7/43

    Hi everyone,

    I have two Aircrew from 23 Sqd lost on that date, they are:-

    Sgt Eric Charles Gregory - 1316463

    F/S Kenneth John Owen Hawkins - 1255935

    Both are buried in Uden War Cemetery.

    What I would like to know if at all possible:-

    The Operation they were taking part in;

    Base;

    Aircraft Flown/flown in;

    Serial No and Code;

    Possible crashsite.

    Appreciative as always.

    Kind regards.

    Steve.

    Default 23 Sqd Aircrew Casualties - 29/7/42

    Hello Steve,

    28/29 July 1942.

    Mosquito NFII DD677 YP- from 23 Sqn (11 Group) lost on Night Intruder to Eindhoven.

    Took off 23.45 on 28 July 1942, must have been from Ford.

    Probably Mark Huxtable can tell you more about this incident.

    Please remark year!

    Regards

    Finn Buch

    I'm afraid I've nothing to add to Henk's excellent post above, other than to say Tony Wood's list gives the altitude as 8,000m, which I think must be in error for 800m.

    Ross's site confirms 23 Sqn was at Ford.

    Hi Gentlemen,

    First of all thank you for the excellent information on the two airmen involved, nice one.

    Secondly, my apologies for the couple of bits of duff information on my behalf, the date was 29/7/42 and Gregory's number was 531027. So I will sneak away tail between my legs and make a quick exit through the nearest door.

    Cheers for putting me in my place.

    Steve.
