What became of Cable of the Airborne Forces Experimental Establishment. He tested Focke Achgelis autogiros at Beaulieu and afterwards 'went into helicopters'

    Robin,
    Some hits in LG for:-
Cadet Navigators Cmd RAF GD 26th May 1961 Brian Francis CABLE (4231015).
But that might be a bit late for the one you are asking about??
Don't know which one of these two he, above, might be?
Births Mar 1943 Cable, Brian F, Whitmore, Watford 3a 2033.
Births Sep 1944 Cable, Brian F, Slater, Chichester 2b 571
    HTH
    Peter Davies

And as a PS, at the head of the opposte col on that page of the LG was:-

    AIR MINISTRY
    ROYAL AIR FORCE
    GENERAL DUTIES BRANCH
    Appointment to commission (permanent)
As Flight Lieutenants (Supplementary List) :
    William Henry AKISTER (1921700). 18th Apr. 1961.
Bill Akister was the finest Herc Airframe Driver I've ever flown with - and I've flown with quite a few! And when I flew with him he only had one serviceable eye. Bloody brilliant!
(sorry for addition - but experts of his calibre are few and far between!!)

Cable was known as Jeep after a Popeye character who gave signals with his tail. Before the RAF Cable had flying lessons with Cierva while a messenger with the Post Office. While with AFEE/RAF he test flew helicopters types and instructed. Previously he escaped death when a Hoverfly started to break up and fell to the ground-source 'The Sycamore Seeds' Early British Helicopter Development. Thanks to those in the forum who replied for helping point me in the right direction
