    Morning Alex

    SCOTT, George - AC1c - 770635 - RAFVR.
    Chichester Cemetery, Sussex.
    Cause of death ?
Not much description, but "A brief illness of some three weeks' duration terminated in his unexpected demise."

Source quoted (and checked) is Chichester Observer - Saturday 10 August 1940

    Also

    400830 - Unaccounted Airmen - 30-08-1940
    Shouldn't that read 400730 - Unaccounted Airmen - 30-07-1940?

    Regards,

    Jeff

There has been quite some debate about the spelling of this chap's name. He was of course the son of the Chairman of Boulton and Paul.
TNA goes for the hyphenated version Dawson-Paul: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C14502688

Also, at the bottom of: http://www.bbm.org.uk/airmen/Dawson-Paul.htm
it says "This airman's surname appeared inconsistently in the records, sometimes as Paul and sometimes as Dawson-Paul, both with and without a hyphen. A decision was made to use Dawson-Paul (subsequently confirmed as correct by his family who made contact) but a visit to his grave revealed that the CWGC had decided to use Paul alone."

Thanks Andy, Yes I had always seen him refered to in books and on line as Dawson-Paul. But it would perhaps be correct as Dawson-Paul if family accepts that to have been his name ?

In what sense is the record of FH Jones unaccounted for? He was my wife's uncle and we have his medals and his service record. We even have a photo of his grave when it was marked by a simple cross, before the current CWGC headstone was erected. Is there somewhere that additional information could be published about him which would make his less unaccounted for? Also, what prompted you to publish this particular list just now?

I think you totally have the wrong end of the stick.

Alex revisits these dates to prompt any new information people may have discovered in the interim since the post was launched, maybe over a decade ago, and to remember these lads and lasses so they aren't filed away and forgotten once unaccounted for. The name of this entire project is the " Unaccounted Airmen " project, ergo that's the title of Alex's long list of similar posts

I think, perhaps, that Mr(?) Buchanan raises a valid point. Although us old stagers are familiar with the aim of the project I suspect the title Unaccounted Airmen could be misleading to someone coming across it for the first time. I vaguely recall Henk describing its rationale and his aims, but this was in the first version of the RAF Commands forum, and there appears to be no record of it on this version (effective from 2007).

Could I suggest we add an explanation, by means of a Sticky, to the Unaccounted Airmen and Airwomen forum page - possibly as a sub-forum before the 1939 page (http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/for...rwomen-Project)

At this time of year I revisit the records of family members who served in the military. I came the website and forum with a very recent post about FH Jones.
If there is anywhere to publish a few more details about his 16 years of RAF service culminating in his loss during the Battle of Britain, I would be willing to do so.
