A49-5 was a Dornier Do24K.

That one has been resolved, therefore it has been removed to the second tab in the spreadsheet.

Just looking at SNAPE, and the Wellington serial LP162.
Is it possible that this was LP182 (37 Sqn) that according to ABLA100- LZ999 blew up while loading at Tortorella . The date given in the book is 28/6/1944.
There is also mention in vol 2 of BCL losses in the ME, page133.
A second a/c MF351 was set alight by debris from LP182.
The fatalities and this event are so very close.

Reference the note about SAAF 410, I agree that this serial was a Hawker Hart.
But according to "85 Years of the SAAF" this machine was SOC on 31Oct44, which makes it an unlikely candidate.

I did a few updates the other evening and I added my comments in the L k columns in this fashion

Service file states Spitfire Xxxxx , a simple statement of what you have done.

Or I added, scanned service file does not record aircraft details, as I believe the scans on ancestry are not the entire RCAF file, might be wrong there.

Just add a little note to mention your source and where your arriving at that from. I didnt update the actual fields themselves, Jagan I think thats what you wanted.?

The entry for Stratton Brown and Allen (MVAF, Singapore) is interesting.
In theory SBA should be a reference to VR-SBA.
However, this was a DH Moth Major, which was thought to have been impressed into the MVAF on 1Dec41, and destroyed on 9Dec41 during the Japanese invasion of Singapore.
I have asked Moth guru Malcolm Fillmore for comment.

The source for that MVAF entry seems to be the AIR entry - and i agree SBA is too suspiciously coincidental to the initials of the surname!.. Would love to see what Malcolm comes back with.

Malcolm says that VR-SBA was indeed thought to have been impressed as serial 1 in Dec41.
It could of course been operated by the MVAF earlier under its civil identity, although given that there were two fatalities it seems unlikely to have survived beyond May 41.
Maybe the MVAF serial was only a paper allocation?
