F/Lt Hugh Collison Bailey, 40067

With the help of the radio operator's son and Hugh Halliday have confirmed that the above was captain for the ferry flight of FK184, the first Fortress IIA (B-17E) delivered to the UK. He also delivered Fortress I AN521.

Does anyone have more info on Bailey? I suspect he was a Coastal Command pilot.

I came across this officers name today

His name is listed on a document entitled The Pembroke Dock Flying Boat Reunion Register dated 1993. He is shown as a retired Wing Commander having previously served on 240 Squadron. There is a detailed entry for him on Ancestry.co.uk

He has born in Medicine Hat AB on 11/03/1916 but moved to the UK in 1924, settling in Ashford Kent.

He joined the RAF in 1937 having worked for a firm of Solicitors since 1932. He remained with the RAF until 1971. He passed away in June 1998
