Check the ORB Appendices - they sometimes have them in there:
https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/C2503462
For example, there's one on page 51 of 269.

Hi All,
A mate has asked he was trying to check the combat reports for 104 Sqn (September 39-February 42) but cannot find any. Does anyone know why there aren’t any at the National Archives?
Cheers,
John.

Researching R.A.F. personnel from the North East of England
Hi Simon,
Thanks mate I’ll pass your information on.
Cheers,
John.

I don't know the reason but a lot of the early ones are missing, for example I have been unable to find any for 78 Squadron until 1942. The same with other Squadrons, I have looked at.

Daz
Hi Daz,
Thanks for the information, perhaps with the Germans knocking at the door in the early days keeping records was not a high priority!
Cheers,
John.
