Munro,
Could this be him?
Captain Julius Karasek of Cracow was married to Mrs. Madge Harland in London on 24 November 1956.
(London Times, 21 December 1956)
Munro,
J R Karasek is mentioned a few times in the second volume of 2nd Tactical Air Force by Shores & Thomas (July-Dec 1944).
However, he's listed as flying Spitfires with 602 (and not 609) Squadron. No loss record of him in the 1945 volume.
Regards,
Leendert
Munro,
Found your man after all: see http://www.nimh.nl/nl/images/1944%20sec_tcm5-7285.pdf
and go to 44-12-02 (2 Dec 44). Karasek crashed with Spitfire NH150 near Zoetermeer.
Was involved in attack on V-2 launch site.
Regards,
Leendert
PS NIMH website has all known aircraft losses in the Netherlands 1939-1945.
There was no man of this name in the Polish AF, and the captain rank suggests this was an army man anyway. There was a gunner Lawrence Karasek flying on 23 Squadron in the Battle of Britain though.
Hi Ken,
I´m not sure about this info. You mentioned army rank Captain. Thank you for idea.
Munro
Hello Leendert,
thanks for your info connected to W/O J.R. Karasek. Could you be so kind and share info from 2nd TAF book pertinent to Karasek? It will be very helpful for further research.
TIA
Munro
