Alex,
That batch of 440 (BH732-BJ408 with gaps) was renumbered into the series AE958-AM369 (with gaps).
I have no idea if this was done consecutively.
If it was, BJ297 would have become AM309.

Hello,
Seeking details about Hurricane serial number BJ297.
It seems that it was one of a batch that were renumbered in the HA/HZ serial number series.
Thanks
Alex

Alex,
Curious why you have interest in specific Hurricane serial from a batch that was never applied.
According to Bruce Robertson, the batch was manufactured by Canadian Car and Foundry, the new serials being a product of an allocation to the British Purchasing Commission in North America.
Cheers,
Robert
Hi,
Just looking through for a Hurricane with number ??297.
In the AB's book BA100-BZ999(1985) it has the following for BH732 - BJ408.
CCFbuilt Hurricanes reallocated serials AE958 - AE977, AF945 - AG344, AG665 - AG684, AM270 - AM369.
AB's BA100 - BZ999(2006) has the following -
BH732-BH781; BH797 - BH841; BH855 - BH904; BH968 - BH997;
(Total = 175)
CCF-Built Hurricanes reallocated serials -
BJ112 - BJ136; BJ150 - BJ199;
AE958 - AE977; BJ213 - BJ257;
BJ274 - BJ323; AF945 - AG344;
AG665,
BJ369 - BJ408; AG684 and AM270 - AM369.
(Total = 452)
AM270 allotted twice; to AP138.
And as Andy said, wondered if the reallocation was consecutive or random.
For me it seems very confusing.
Also the "new" serial numbers are not listed with their individual histories in the books

Alex,
Phil Butler in Air Arsenal North America quotes:
AE958-AE977, AF945-AG344, AG665-AG684 and AM271-AM369 and AP138 (440 aircraft in total)
AP138 replaced serial AM270 which had been allocated in error.
He also notes that AP139-AP163 (25 aircraft) have been quoted in error elsewhere.
