Default Sqn Ldr Frederick (William) Augustus Wardell 28030 AFC Dob 10-2-1900 DoD ?

All I am looking at the following airman

He was born Frederick William Augustus WARDELL but in RAF as Frederick Augustus WARDELL 10 Feb 1900 Laurel Vale, Arm, Ireland

    RESERVE OF AIR FORCE OFFICERS.
    GENERAL DUTIES BRANCH.
    Frederick Augustus WARDELL is granted
a commission in the Special Reserve as
Pilot Officer on probation. 1st June 1928

The was the SSC 1929 and the RAFO Class A as Flt/Lt 7th Oct 1938 Service Number 28030

He serves in WW2 and is awarded an AFC as Sqn Ldr 1st March 1942 - then nothing
He still Sqn Ldr RAFO July 1945 - And is supposed to have died in Jersey ??

there in no relinquish (I can find) for him in 1954 (when Emergency List commission ended as a result on Armed Forces Act 1954) - Effective 10th Feb 1954

I assume he died between 1945 and 1954 but can't prove it - I also wonder if he on any AFL between these 2 dates ?

    Hello

Some info here, but no date of death:

    https://www.sinton-family-trees.com/...n.php?rin=3624

A family tree on ancestry states that he died in 2000 in Egypt...!

    Regards

    Did you have this ?

WARDELL, Frederick Augustus, S/L (28030, Royal Air Force) - No.7 Elementary Flying Training School - Air Force Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 31 March 1942. Commissioned 1 June 1928. Commenced instructional duty, 12 June 1933. Commenced duty at No.7 EFTS, 10 October 1938 as a civilian until 2 August 1939; starting again as a service pilot, 3 September 1939. Public Record Office Air 2/9621, courtesy Steve Brew, has citation drafted when he had flown 2,686 hours 25 minutes on instructional duties, 173 hours 40 minutes in last six months (169 instructional). Also had flown 3,998 hours 45 minutes in his career (plus 32 hours as passenger), 814 hours 15 minutes since outbreak of war. Document gives full name as Frederick William Augustus Wardell.

As chief flying instructor, this officer has carried out his duties in a most conscientious and zealous manner. He performed excellent work recently in putting into effect an intensive night flying program, sparing no efforts to make it a success. During the past six month he has spent a large number of hours in testing both pupils and instructors. It has been mainly due to his enthusiasm that elementary night flying training at his station is far in advance of that of any other station in the group.

Original submission of 10 January 1942 was as follows:

As Chief Flying Instructor, this officer has done excellent work and continues to carry out all his duties in a most conscientious and zealous manner. He has recently shown initiative and energy in putting into effect an intensive Night Flying Programme, and has been unsparing in his personal efforts to make it a success. He throughly deserves recognition for his excellent services.

Endorsed on 11 January 1942 by Air Commodore B.E. Baker, Air Officer Commanding, No.51 (Training) Group, as follows:

Squadron Leader Wardell has performed the duties of Chief Flying Instructor at No.7 Elementary Flying Training School in a most efficient manner. He has completed 2,686 hours as a flying instructor, 186 of which have been flown in the last six months testing pupils and instructors. Principally through his enthusiasm, elementary night flying training at his station is far in advance of any other station in the group. I strongly recommend that his services to flying training be rewarded by the award of the Air Force Cross.

    Hi Paul,

No general entry in the first post war list I have, Jan 1949, it also contains a retired list and he does not appear in the GD Sqn Ldr lists.
