Hi all
I wonder if anyone could assist in a request for information.
A work colleague has been doing some family research and discovered he had a great Uncle from Manchester by the name of Albert Rossi who was aircrew on Lancasters in Bomber Command, though his role is not known for sure, however he and his crew were at some stage shot down and he spent the next two years as a POW.
Sadly we have no information as to which Squadron he was a member of and whilst he intends to request his Service Record from RAF Cranwell if anyone could provide an information lead as to sqn etc I can run with it from there and help research in the meantime.
Any information very much appreciated
Kind regards

Meteorology is a science; good meteorology is an art!
We might not know - but we might know who does!
He was reported (very briefly) as being a P.o.W. in the Manchester Evening News of January 14th 1944 (with a photo):
Sergt. Albert Rossi, Edale Ave., Moston (prisoner in German hands).
The 1939 Register has him living at 28 Edale Avenue, b. November 25th 1915, single and working as a 'General Metal Worker + Welder'. He is living with his parents Nicholas and Edith and sister Mary.

Thank you all for your contributions it has given us a good amount of material to get started with, how do we find out which POW camps he was in please?
Thanks again, one and all!!

Looks like Albert was a Flight Engineer
Sgt. Albert Rossi RAF 1676863 - Flight Engineer
Hi,
He is listed as a pow camp not known, at that time most NCO’s were sent to Stalag 4b unless he was wounded or injured then he would have been sent to a hospital to recover then to a pow camp.
Cheers,
John.
