Speaking of redactions (Paul's post today re casualty packs), I've just received DHH's policy on removing redactions of personal information from the RAF Ferry Command aircrew assignment cards, as follows:
We have to wait until 20 years after the person's death before we can release information. Due to our limited staff, as an umbrella policy, we do not check every card to see if the person passed away. If you find proof that a certain individual passed away more than 20 years ago, I have no problem releasing the card.
Eventually, when we know that all Second World War veterans have passed away for more than 20 years, we will be able to release all of our material for that time period without any redaction. It will be similar to the First World War material that is now open access (you can access all service files from the First World War at Library and Archives Canada online).

They have also not redacted the persons photos from the cards in recent times because they don't know/can't prove who has copyright of the images.

Actually Rob, what is the office email for the DHH, my last three contacts there each retired in turn and I need a new go to person. I can't fathom their website just right now.
