99 Sqn ORB, Details (F541s) missing for August 1940?

Hi all

I can't find the above in the Nat Archives catalogue. They've got the August 1940 Summary sheets and the ORB Appendices, but no Details pages.

Would anyone happen to have a copy, or know if it's actually missing?

Doing a 'mini' research project at the moment on the first RAF Raid on Berlin on 25-26/8/1940.

Hi Ian, I have checked AIR 27/788/20 and it seems to me they simply used only F540 at the time.
If you will check the page 10 of 16 there are listed aircraft + crews + details which are usually recorded in the F541.

The problem is that those details are assigned to the aicraft MSIs not serials and the MSIs are not assigned to the serials so it is impossible to couple them:(

Doh! I hadn't looked that far down in the '540s to find those extra pages. I'd only glanced at about the first 3 pages! Many thanks for pointing it out. Yes, there's some more info there that'll help me.

ps Can't work out what "MSIs" are (are those the individual "CA.9xx" notes listed just above?) But it does show the each a/c's serial at the top of each crew listing, although not the a/c's individual code letter.

Hi Ian,
MSI has been discused earlier on this forum but I am not able to find the right thread.
In general MSI was a unique code assigned to each bomber taking part in a particular raid, i.e. the same aircraft would have a totally differend MSI each time when flying an operation.

Thanks again Pavel. Yes, it looks like each a/c was allocated its own ‘MSI’, a sort of 'code' for the a/c for the night. Never heard of that before!
Still can’t think what MSI stands for though.

Found it! MSI = 'Movement Serial Indicator'
