Default Flight Sergt. Eric HELM - 1941 medal award?

    Hello everyone

I came across the following article in the Cleveland* Standard newspaper of Saturday November 15th 1941:

    LINGDALE
    Award for Gallantry
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Helm, of North Terrace, Lingdale, told a "Standard" reported that their son, Eric Helm, a flight sergeant in the R.A.F., has received the Distingiished Flying Medal. Although they do not know the circumstances of their son's achievement the honour has been well received in Lingdale. Flight Sergt. Helm is 20 years of age and was a scholar at the Lingdale Schools.

There is a photo of him on a family tree on ancestry.co.uk in his R.A.F. uniform, and he does have a medal ribbon, but it looks more like a B.E.M. (or O.B.E. etc) ribbon, definitely not a D.F.M.

I can't find him in the awards database on the Forum, nor any other reports in other newspapers. The only Eric Helm I could see in Air 78 has the Service Number 952357.

Can anyone help me find out more about this award?

    Regards

    Simon

    Hello Peter

Sorry, you've got a different Eric Helm!

    Eric Helm, b. December 25th 1921 (reg 1st quarter 1922, Guisborough), m.m.s. Gott.

His parents are Mark Cowen Helm and Gertrude Helm (nee Gott).

    Regards

    Simon

EDIT - Peter had posted details for another Eric Helm which he then deleted, in case anyone is confused!
