Hi Michel
Sunderland III, W3999 of No 10 (RAAF) Sqn exploded after making a successful forced landing on the sea after being attacked by an Arado Ar 196 during an ASR patrol.
Malcolm
Hi,
I'm looking for information about 10 sqd RAAF. Its ORB is unfortunately not available on the net.
I would like to know, if possible:
- The crew and the circumstances of the disappearance of RB/Y-3999, Sunderland on 21 June 1942.
- On a date unknown to me, but in between 15 December 1941 and 21 June 1942, a 10 Sqd RAAF’s pilot (Hazard Jacques (FF)) participated in a mission during which his Sunderland was badly damaged and part of his crew injured.
What is the date of this event ?
Regards
MLT

Hello All
For Aircraft W3999 RB-Y, researcher Dr Roberts who got access to the AHB in the 1970s also lists:-
10 Sq. RB-Y Base Mount Batten 1/3/42 "15.40 Aircraft fell heavily due to sudden gust of wind on landing. Port float damaged. On flight test of automatic pilot. Cat. Ac."
Mark
1-3-1942
No.10 Sqn RAAF
Sunderland III W3999:RB-Y
F/L Reg Marks experienced a severe wind shear during test flight of auto pilot when alighting, and was dumped heavily onto the water; one float broke off and the port mainplane which had just dipped into the sea was twisted. Additionally, the port engine was 'drowned' and the hull broken aft. A pinnace was required to tow the damaged Sunderland with its somewhat shaken crew back to the mooring area at Mount Batten.

P/O (1st Pilot) John Parker ROBERTS RAAF
P/O (2nd Pilot) Arthur Francis O'DWYER RAAF
Pass: P/O Maxwell Stanley MAINPRIZE RAAF
Pass: F/O ERICKSON RCAF
